Wild Washing

Traditionally rhassoul clay was used to clean the skin in conjunction with argan oil to moisturise and a splash of rose water to tone, reduce redness and broken capillaries. Finish off by deodorising with a piece of wild volcanic alum crystal.

A totally organic spa experiencewaterfall

1. Traditional Moroccan Rhassoul Clay

Rhassoul Clay is a completely natural washing solution for the face and body. Even sensitive and allergy prone skin is well suited to using clay. When mixed with water and used on the skin it cleans gently and completely, even taking off waterproof eye make up!

  • Rhassoul Clay has a powerful negative charge which makes it effective as a detoxifying agent. Toxins such as heavy metals which lay under the skinʼs surface have a positive charge – the clay draws them through the skin and inside the clay particle.
  • Clay is particularly effective at absorbing excess sebum. It works as well on skins troubled with acne as it does on skins troubled by dry skin conditions.
  • Rhassoul is known for its ʻswellingʼ ability allowing it fill with toxins. As it has such a fine particle size, it has a huge surface area and carrying capacity. 1g of this type of clay has the surface area of 800m2! It is hard to find other natural materials which have this high carrying capacity.
  • Rhassoul clay is composed of 100% minerals and trace-elements. The skin will absorb some of these while releasing toxins in a process called ionic exchange, resulting in an improved skin structure and feel.
  • Clay is anti-microbial and is known to kill viruses and helps to protect the skin from attack. At the same time clay does not destroy our individual skin flora.
  • On the molecular level clay particles are somewhat rough, helping to exfoliate the skin, clay washingreturning dry and flaky skins to optimum condition. The outer layers of the skin are designed to be shed, allowing the skin to be free to exchange gases, to release sweat, sebum and toxins. Dead skin also contain many toxins which the body has not removed through other channels of elimination.
  • People with inflamed and itchy skins wash in clay to feel more comfortable.

2. Virgin Cold Pressed Argan Oil

  • Argan Oil (Argania spinosa) is high in essential fatty acids, which are important for optimum skin health.
  • It is an amazing natural moisturiser which helps to reduce the signs of aging. The effects begin from the first usage.
  • It is also very high on the free-radical fighting anti oxidants, tocopherols and toctrienols, which again help to combat the processes of aging.

Argan Oil, long known to the Berbers of Morocco – famed by the Ancient writers for their beauty, is now being hailed in the West as a remarkable anti-aging oil. Argan Oil is pressed from the seed kernel of the argan tree. It is a relic tree species, dating from the Tertiary era, (think Jurassic) growing only in dry forests in Southern Morocco. There, across dry mountain foothills, this tree is found in an area of about 800,000 hectares. The tree was protected first by Moroccan law, and then more recently by UNESCO, as part of our world biosphere heritage, not only because the species is unique, and the deep roots of the argan tree help to prevent encroachment by the Sahara desert, but also due to its economic and cultural value to the Berbers.

3. Rose Water

Rose water acts as a freshener and toner for the face. It helps with reducing redness and the appearance of fine and broken capillaries in the skin.

This routine acts as a natural face lift!

4. Natural Volcanic Alum Crystal

Natural alum crystal can be used as a deodorant by wetting it and rubbing gently over the skin. As it has an astringent effect it can also be used after shaving to tone the skin.

Understanding Alum: Alum

  • Natural volcanic sources of alum (potash alum or potassium alum) used as deodorant.
  • Synthetic factory produced alums (ammonium alum, potassium alum) used as deodorant ingredients.
  • Another ingredient, aluminium chlorohydrate is used to fabricate antiperspirants.
  • Deodorants remain largely on the outside of the skin surface and work by killing the odour causing microbes on the outside of the body.
  • Anecdotal differences are reported in the effectiveness between synthetic and natural alums in deodorizing.
  • Natural volcanic alum is an earth grown crystal, the molecules are very large, for this reason and due to the negative charge the molecules cannot pass through the skin barrier.
  • Natural alum is a very planet friendly alum, because it has been made already by natural seismic and geothermal processes and does not require further processing.
