Dropi Extra Virgin Cod Liver Oil 220ml

Availability: Out of stock

Quick Overview

Dropi cod liver oil is extracted from the liver of cod fished in the Westfjord region of Iceland, using a modernized version of an ancient Icelandic method. High temperatures are avoided to preserve the natural fatty acids, including Omega 3, and Vitamins A and D.

Today, most fish liver oil is produced by melting the liver at a high temperature. In the process, some of the natural nutrients are lost or damaged, including the vitamins. These are often added back at a later stage, usually usisng synthetic nutrients.

This cod liver oil is classed as a raw product, as it is never heated above 42°C. At this low temperature the livers gently release their oil and so preserve all the natural ingredients.Dropi Logo

Each batch of oil is never quite the same. It depends on the season and what the cod are eating. The colour and taste vary, as does the composition of fatty acids and vitamins. This is why, when describing the content, averages are used. Dropi buy cod liver from local fishermen, using eco-friendly fishing lines. The fishermen choose to sell their liver to Dropi because they like the way they treat it.

The company holds a certificate for sustainable fisheries.

To produce the oil Dropi use recycled milk tanks bought from farmers in their area. The liver is first shredded, then water is added to it and the mixture is heated to 42°C. The water is then removed and the oil cleansed. The process requires constant care and oversight. It takes 28 hours to produce. Eventually, the extra virgin cod liver oil is bottled or poured into fish-gelatin capsules.
